Former MSRE student David Karr has participated in this event and he highly recommends it to the UTA graduate students. David is also willing to coach UTA's first team participating in this competition, if we can get a team together by the Febuary 7th deadline.
This spring the North Texas Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (“NAIOP”) will present its third annual “Texas Shoot-Out” real estate academic challenge. Select graduate student teams from around our state will compete for prize money and the NAIOP Cup. We would be delighted to have your program represented in this competition. Here’s how it will work:
Each school will select a team consisting of 4-6 graduate students (can be 1st or 2nd year students). The teams will be given a case study on a real development or re-development project and be asked to address several key issues of the project. Acting in the role of a consultant, they will present their findings and recommendations on the several key points in a formal presentation.
The teams will be given the case study 5 days prior to the event. On the day of the event, the participating teams will be paired into groups of two teams each and present their findings to judges selected from the Texas real estate industry. Two finalists will be selected and compete for the NAIOP Cup and 1st and 2nd place prize money. Last year, the first place prize winners received $10,000 to be split equally with the school and the team. Each of the schools will receive a stipend to cover travel costs, etc. if needed. The schools will present anonymously, and will only be identified when the winners are announced that evening.
The event is a great networking opportunity. The competition will be held at the Dallas Country Club on April 3rd. The first round of competition will commence in the early afternoon. The finals will be held as part of a cocktail reception and dinner open to students/faculty and the Texas real estate community.
A registration packet will be sent to you upon confirmation of your school’s participation. We hope that you will choose to compete in the event and look forward to making our third annual Texas Shoot-Out a fun and rewarding experience for all participants.
Would any graduate students be interesting in participating? THE DEADLINE FOR RESPONDING TO NAIOP IS FEBRUARY 7th. If you are interested (first, you need to move quickly), please send Dr. Hansz ahansz@gmail.com and David Karr David.Karr@hillwood.com an e-mail expressing your interest. Also, please include a current resume.
