Commercial Real Estate Job Opportunities
SCM Real Estate Services of Arlington is seeking senior business majors who are interested in becoming full-time commercial brokers. Texas Real Estate License is preferable.
Why work at SCM?
- Our growth since 1992 has brought us to become the largest commercial real estate company in Arlington, and in the top 5 Real Estate companies in Tarrant County. SCM's team handles more commercial real estate in the Arlington and Mid-cities markets than national firms such as CB Richard Ellis and NAI Huff's local affiliate.
- Our size is beneficial to our clients, being small enough to be flexible, yet experienced enough to handle any challenge.
- We have recently invested back into the company offering many powerful industry specific tools to our brokers; a property and contact database of over 25,000 contacts, access to CoStar Online Database, Business Marketing Source, HTML email hosting, and our own in house broker training to prepare you to make quality transactions.

Summer Schedule...
What a beautiful, warm February weekend in Texas. I know exactly what everyone is thinking...
What Graduate Real Estate courses will be offered this Summer?
First of all, remember that the COBA summer session is 8-weeks (basically most of June/July).
REAE 5311 Real Estate Analysis is offered on Saturday from 1 PM to 6 PM.
REAE 5337 Real Property Law is on Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM.
REAE 5350 is on Monday/Wednesday from 5:30 PM to 7:50 PM followed by REAE 5392 GIS Projects Monday/Wednesday from 8 PM to 10:20 PM. It is recommended that you take both course back to back if possible.
Certificate students can take REAE 5311 and MSRE students can take any of these REAE courses or take FINA 5311 or an advanced elective course.
Prospective student, summer is a great time to start the program. You can take REAE 5311 during the eight week session and be well prepared for the Fall semester.
MBA students can take any combination of these courses as long as they take REAE 5311 first or concurrently.
Finally, Summer is definitely the best time to take REAE 5337. Although REAE 5337 is offered all year round, the summer REAE 5337 is exclusively for graduate students. During the Fall and Spring semesters, REAE 5337 is cross-listed with an undergraduate section.

Fall 07 Appraisal Students Thank Jay Redford!
Jay Redford of Integra Realty Resources (Fort Worth office) was a tremendous resource to the appraisal classes this past fall. Jay came to campus to speak with both the undergraduate and graduate appraisal classes and helped us get started with valuing a retail strip center (Steve Isbell's development) in South Arlington. Jay is a Senior Analyst with Integra and a graduate of the UTA MSRE program.
If you would like to see sample appraisal reports, visit

(just click on 'OK' at the prompt)
Thanks Jay! (Give me a shout next time you are in Arlington, I owe you lunch!)

Attention Students and Alumni: Real Estate Group Social
The SSRE group will be having its first unofficial spring meeting this Tuesday, February 12th starting at around 5:30 PM (depending on traffic). This is an off-campus event and not sponsored by the University, but it can still be fun.
Michael Herrera and Wil Morgan have been working hard the past couple semesters to organize these events and attendance has been steadily increasing. Michael and Wil would also like to invite and encourage any Alumni to attend. These meetings are starting to develop into nice networking opportunities.
The event will be held at Sherlock's Baker Street Pub and Grill, 254 Lincoln Square Ctr, Arlington TX 76011.
Meetings this semester may also be useful for our first ever NAOIP team (now consisting of Lauren Morgan, Scott, Edwards, Fernando Zamarripa, Brian Bacharach, Mavis Sauer, and Cathy Trinh) to plan ahead for the April competition. Prior preparation and team cohesiveness will be critical!
If you will attend, please indicate so by commenting to this post. Michael and Will will keep any eye out for you (it is a large restaurant with two sides - the group usually meets on the side with the pool tables and dart boards).

NAIOP Texas Shoot-Out Challenge (Deadline February 7th)
Former MSRE student David Karr has participated in this event and he highly recommends it to the UTA graduate students. David is also willing to coach UTA's first team participating in this competition, if we can get a team together by the Febuary 7th deadline.
This spring the North Texas Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (“NAIOP”) will present its third annual “Texas Shoot-Out” real estate academic challenge. Select graduate student teams from around our state will compete for prize money and the NAIOP Cup. We would be delighted to have your program represented in this competition. Here’s how it will work:
Each school will select a team consisting of 4-6 graduate students (can be 1st or 2nd year students). The teams will be given a case study on a real development or re-development project and be asked to address several key issues of the project. Acting in the role of a consultant, they will present their findings and recommendations on the several key points in a formal presentation.
The teams will be given the case study 5 days prior to the event. On the day of the event, the participating teams will be paired into groups of two teams each and present their findings to judges selected from the Texas real estate industry. Two finalists will be selected and compete for the NAIOP Cup and 1st and 2nd place prize money. Last year, the first place prize winners received $10,000 to be split equally with the school and the team. Each of the schools will receive a stipend to cover travel costs, etc. if needed. The schools will present anonymously, and will only be identified when the winners are announced that evening.
The event is a great networking opportunity. The competition will be held at the Dallas Country Club on April 3rd. The first round of competition will commence in the early afternoon. The finals will be held as part of a cocktail reception and dinner open to students/faculty and the Texas real estate community.
A registration packet will be sent to you upon confirmation of your school’s participation. We hope that you will choose to compete in the event and look forward to making our third annual Texas Shoot-Out a fun and rewarding experience for all participants.
Would any graduate students be interesting in participating? THE DEADLINE FOR RESPONDING TO NAIOP IS FEBRUARY 7th. If you are interested (first, you need to move quickly), please send Dr. Hansz ahansz@gmail.com and David Karr David.Karr@hillwood.com an e-mail expressing your interest. Also, please include a current resume.

Dr. Robert McLean from the CFA Institute
All year around, I often get questions about the CFA program. It has been many years since I completed the candidate program and this program has subsequently grown (a lot!) and changed. Well, we have a special opportunity this week.
This Wednesday, February 6, 2008 we will have one of the top executives from CFA Institute headquarters on campus. This is the second year that Dr. McLean will visit UTA and he would like to meet as many UTA students and faculty as possible.
To help facilitate this request, I have scheduled a "Meet and Greet" sesssion from 5 PM to 6:20 PM in 609 Business Building. Please stop in at this time to meet Dr. McLean and find out more about the CFA program. See you there!

Marcus & Millichap Job Opportunity - Sanjeev again!
Dr. Hansz:
One of our brokers in our office is looking for a part-time assistant for our Fort Worth Office. Here is a brief description of what she is looking for:
I would like to hire a part-time person to complete database activities. More specifically, this would include researching medical office building ownership and calling to verify such ownership. This person will need to have a solid understanding of database researching, excel spreadsheets, and the ability to converse on the telephone to verify ownership.
Pay is going to be negotiable depending on experience, and hours are flexible as well.
This would an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to enter into the Commercial Real Estate Investment sector.
They can learn more about our company on our website at www.marcusmillichap.com. We are located in the new Tower which was the old Bank One building before the tornado hit 6-7 years ago.
Please forward this to Michael Herrera and also add this to your program blog. You can also forward the other job opportunity to Michael Herrera so he can distribute it to SSRE members.
Thanks again,

Archon Job Opportunity - Thanks Sanjeev!
Below is a great opportunity for those in the MSRE program. The company is Archon Group, L.P. which is a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs, they contacted the below staffing agent to bring on board 8 new employees. Salary will depend on experience but will probably be in the upper 40s-Mid 50s. The office is out of Las Colinas. I have known the staffing agent for over 2 years and is an excellent resource for job opportunities. He brings quality job opportunities and can definitely assist any students at UTA.
Anyone that is interested can go to Archon’s website to conduct further research: www.archongroup.com
Also, if the students want to forward me their resume or contact the agent directly, tell them to mention my name, so he knows where these resumes are coming from.
