Glorypark audio files posted
To access the Glorypark case study go to our homepage www.uta.edu/realestate and click on "Glorypark case." Enjoy! Business Week was very relevant to the real estate students this year (and next year the focus is on the Cowboy Stadium development with the keynote speaker some guy named Jerry Jones, so more great events to come...).
I am waiting for two VIDEO files containing the Glorypark keynote speaker and a presentation from the project manager. I will make a blog post when these items are posted.

2008 Airport Cities World Conference & Exhibition
Dear Real Estate Students,
The 2008 Airport Cities World Conference and Exhibition (ACE) was held at the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport, April 9th to 11th. For an overview of the conference, please visit www.airportconference.com. More than 500 executives and top management from 30 countries attended. I was honored to be invited as a representative of the UTA Graduate Real Estate program (REAE@UTA). In addition, four other college students attended representing SMU and TCU.
In general, the conference discussed trends relating to airport development and the growing role of airports for regional economic growth through a series of presentations and showcases. Delegates from national and global airports presented their future development plans about airport city and the economic contributions their airport cites will bring to surrounding regions. The next international conference for airport cities will be in Athens in 2009 and Beijing in 2010.
One of the highlights for the graduate students was a personal tour and presentation by Mr. John Palmer. Mr. John Palmer of Redico Development Co. (see www.redico.com) is in charge of the mega DFW airport development called ‘Southgate Plaza.’ The 32-acre Southgate Plaza is designed to have full-service retail and restaurant space, office buildings, and five-star hotels (for more information visit http://www.mohment.com/dfw/dfw-southgate.html). The Southgate Plaza project is a major development move to establish a world-class airport city at DFW. Redico is partnering with Lutz Real Estate Investment of Farmington Hills to develop Southgate Plaza. Another highlight of this event was an opportunity to meet many of the top executives at DFW Airport including Mr. Jeffrey Fegan, DFW Airport CEO.
Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Palmer who sent out the invitation for a UTA real estate student to attend this very special event. I also appreciate Mr. James E. Ellis, Executive Director of UTA’s EMBA Program, who introduced me to the executives attending the ACE conference.
If anyone has any questions about this event, feel free to contact me at zhaoxuan13@gmail.com. Below are a few pictures from the conference.
Sincerely,
Georgia Zhao Xuan

CREW Scholarship Reminder - Deadline May 23rd
Hi,
I know of you due to Central Texas Chapter AI meetings and thought some of your students might be interested in this scholarship opportunity. I belong to a national organization called CREW, or Career Real Estate Women. Locally, our Fort Worth chapter has over 100 members that are involved in some aspect of real estate, from building, green building, appraising, lending, designing, brokerage, law, title work, etc. The local organization’s website is www.fwcrew.org.
The organization was originally created to support the advancement of women in real estate careers. If you look at http://www.crewcareerzone.org/, you will see that they have started several programs to further this goal. UCREW is a University outreach program. I will be CREW president next year and have thought about having an event that works with University and/or high school students regarding real estate related career paths discussing the good and the bad of them. There are also videos about different career paths, job opportunities, and the scholarship opportunity I previously mentioned.
Nationally, CREW will award up to 10, $10,000 scholarships annually to junior and senior undergraduate female students to cover the costs of tuition and books. The ideal candidate will be a female enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university with an accredited real estate program. Applications will also be considered if the applicant is female and is enrolled full-time at a University that does not have a an accredited real estate program, but where the applicant is enrolled in business, finance, architecture, engineering, or other related field of study and the student’s intention is to pursue a career in commercial real estate. The deadline is May 23rd.
Please feel free to send this to any of your students who you feel may be qualified and/or interested. We’d love to have a local award recipient!
Thanks!
